Pistachios and digestive system health

According to a research conducted by the American Nutrition Association in 2012 , post regulates the microbial composition of the digestive system. This study showed that pistachios change the level of beneficial bacteria in the digestive system and thereby improve the health of this system. The microbes of the digestive tract play an important role in the health of the human host. Modifying this microbial environment is necessary to maintain the health of the digestive system as well as the overall health of the body, and based on studies, pistachios significantly contribute to the health of the digestive system with this mechanism .

The effect of pistachios on the health of the digestive system

Pistachios provide essential compounds needed by the digestive system Pistachios have prebiotic properties. Prebiotics are non-digestible food compounds such as dietary fibers that remain in the digestive tract and are consumed as a food source for intestinal bacteria. Foods with prebiotic properties increase the growth or activity of beneficial bacteria in the digestive tract, and by improving the microbial balance of the large intestine, they have positive effects on the health of the body. Pistachios also contain special chemical compounds that improve the intestinal microbial balance.
To investigate the relationship between prebiotic compounds in pistachio kernel and the digestive system a study was conducted in which 16 healthy people were randomly selected and divided into 3 groups. The diet of the first group did not contain pistachios, the second group contained 1.5 ounces (42.5 grams) and the third group contained 3 ounces (85 grams) of pistachios or almonds. In order to evaluate the composition of intestinal bacteria, the stool samples of the participants were examined. The amounts of lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacterium were also determined.
. These bacteria are two groups of living microorganisms in the digestive tract that play a role in breaking down food compounds. The results of this research showed that after 19 days, beneficial intestinal bacteria increased in people who consumed 85 grams of pistachios (equivalent to 147 pistachios or 2 units). It was also found that the effect of pistachios in improving intestinal microbial balance is stronger than almonds. Therefore, it can be said that nuts, especially pistachios, play an important role in improving the intestinal microbial balance due to the presence of fiber and other prebiotic compounds.

۱ 1 ounce (28.35 grams) of pistachios is equivalent to 49 pistachios and contains 160 calories of energy, which provides 3 grams of fiber (12% of the daily recommended amount). The fiber in this quantity of pistachios is more than the fiber of 1 unit of wheat bread (one palm of bread). Also, pistachios are a good source of vitamin B6, copper, manganese, phosphorus and vitamin B1 (thiamine).
